Getting Started
1. Divide into teams of at least 2 members each, but no more than 6 members per team or more than 4 teams.
2. Each team writes down a common word. This is the “Secret Word” which will end the game if another team speaks it during a skit. The word should not be unavoidable (such as: and, the, you) but also should not be too obscure (such as: antidisestablishmentarianism). A good example would be: Apartment, handlebar, beret, ozone or frog. You cannot use words that are also card titles.
3. Shuffle the deck of Act Out cards and deal a hand of 6 cards per team. The team to the right of the dealer plays first (team A).
4. “Team A” then asks for either 1, 2 or 3 cards from the other team (team to their right or if you have a lot of people, determine before you start what order the teams will play.).
5. “Team A” receives the cards and then performs an improvisational Scene lasting from 1-2 minutes based on the cards they received (see Performing Scenes)
6. The opposing teams judge the Scene (see Judging Scenes) based on the actors abilities to fulfill the requirements on the cards. If they are successful, they may keep the cards, and set them aside. If not, they keep none of the cards and they are discarded.
7. The team redraws their hand back up to 6 cards and it becomes the next teams turn to act (return to step 4) Play moves to the Right and continues until a “Secret Word” is spoken or the deck runs out of cards to draw from.
8. If a secret word is spoken, the team reveals the word and the current scene stops immediately, The teams count the number of cards they have collected and the team with the highest total wins the game. If the deck runs out, the team that collected the most cards wins.
